For the past six years, I’ve been supplementing a testosterone deficiency—something I once didn’t even know could affect me the way it did.

I took the initiative to search for answers when I realized I wasn’t feeling like myself. My mood swings were intense and unpredictable. I would tear up at something as simple as a violin playing in a commercial. I felt overly emotional, pouty, and often couldn’t make sense of why I was feeling what I felt.

So I did what many people hesitate to do—I asked questions and sought help.

After scheduling an appointment, I had labs done and spent time going over the results in detail. What I learned was eye-opening: my free testosterone levels were essentially at zero. I wasn’t producing what my body needed, and it had thrown everything else—especially my estrogen—completely off balance.

That clarity changed everything.

Since beginning treatment, I can confidently say my sense of balance has been restored. Contrary to common misconceptions, I didn’t suddenly transform into some exaggerated, muscle-bound version of myself. No “Hulk effect,” no loss of femininity. Just a stronger, more stable, and more aligned version of me—both physically and emotionally.

I was prescribed a testosterone cream, which worked well for me since I prefer to avoid regular injections. And while this topic may not always be the most comfortable to discuss, it’s an important one.

Testosterone is not just a “male hormone.” It’s something women naturally produce and need for overall well-being. When levels are too low, it can impact mood, energy, mental clarity, and physical health.

For men, declining testosterone with age is often acknowledged. For women, it’s talked about far less—but it shouldn’t be.

If you’re a woman experiencing heightened emotional sensitivity, unexplained mood shifts, or just not feeling like yourself, it may be worth looking into. Getting bloodwork done and consulting with a qualified physician could provide answers you didn’t know you needed.

Your body speaks. Sometimes we just have to be willing to listen—and brave enough to understand what it’s saying.
